A special opportunity to see someone smile through Delaware Hospice

“Volunteering at Delaware Hospice blessed me more than I blessed anyone else,” reflected Joe Tunney, “whether passing out T.L.C., showing that somebody cares, holding the hand of an Alzheimer’s patient and seeing her smile, or just loving my patients. Volunteering at Delaware Hospice gave me a purpose in life—to get out and make somebody happy.”
Joe Tunney and many other Delaware Hospice volunteers have indeed made patients and families happy over the years.
Delaware Hospice would like to extend a special invitation to the communities of Clayton, Kenton, Hartly, Felton and Harrington to lend a helping hand to your neighbors and take advantage of a wonderful opportunity for you, too, to make somebody happy.
As the only non-profit hospice in the state, Delaware Hospice never bills patients and relies on the support of its dedicated volunteers to meet families’ needs.
Patient care volunteers sit with patients for a few hours and offer a listening ear, read a book, share stories, or just sit and hold their hand. Volunteers might also run errands or provide transportation for patients, and others provide support to Delaware Hospice’s office staff.
As one volunteer said, “Volunteering for Delaware Hospice has a wonderful way of putting your life into perspective.”
Volunteer training classes for Delaware Hospice will be held in Dover on October 20th and 27th. Registration for these training classes is required by October 5th.
To learn more or to register for Fall Training, call Judy Knutstad, Volunteer Coordinator for Kent County, at 678-4448, x117.
