Delaware Hospice Thanks the Georgetown Sheriff’s Office for Delivering Holiday Cheer to Patients and Families

Georgetown, Del., January 21, 2005 - Thursday it was Lt. Jeff Christopher, Sheriff Bob Reed and their colleagues at the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office turn to be surprised with a little New Year cheer. Members of the Delaware Hospice staff delivered a plaque of appreciation along with breakfast to the Sheriff’s Office to thank them for their volunteer spirit and willingness to help Delaware Hospice families in need during the holidays.

“Sheriff Reed, Lt. Christopher, and the entire sheriff’s department worked together so willingly to organize and deliver a lot of toys and other surprises for our families this year. It was very heartwarming and they just made my Christmas.” said Debbie Wright, Delaware Hospice.

The Sheriff’s Office rounded up the help of several community stores and organizations, such as Pay Less Furniture, Wal-Mart, Bob Wright Chrysler, First State Chevrolet and Oldsmobile, and the Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary just to name a few, to purchase and donate gifts for three families affiliated with Delaware Hospice. Even Santa Claus took time out of his busy schedule to deliver the key to a minivan to Dwayne Lawrence of Georgetown, father of six.

“All of us at Delaware Hospice hoped that we could pull together and help a few of our wonderful families. We could not have done nearly as much without the help of the staff at the Sheriff’s office. We want them to know how much we appreciate their contributions. I am touched by their generosity and we are already looking forward to next year,” added Debbie Wright.

Founded in 1982, Delaware Hospice is the largest and only licensed, nonprofit, community-based hospice serving New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware and southern Chester and Delaware counties in Pennsylvania.
