Members of Endeavor Lodge #17 AF&AM chose Delaware Hospice as the beneficiary of its “Texas Hold’em” fundraising event in December.  On January 8th, Bill Hadder, Past Master, and Tom Sombar, Treasurer, presented a check for $1,050 to Delaware Hospice representatives, Peggy Dolby, Assistant Director of Development, and Luanne Holland, Healthcare Liaison.

The Lodge chose to direct this contribution to the Community Campaign to Expand Delaware Hospice, which is the capital campaign supporting the cost of constructing the new, state-of-the-art Delaware Hospice Center.

The Endeavor Lodge is 160 years old, formed in Milton in 1848, and is a member of the Grand Lodge of Delaware.  According to Treasurer Tom Sombar, the Lodge “is a fraternal organization that encourages morality and charity.  We are not a religion, but we strongly encourage our members to belong to an established religion.  We are very active at Endeavor with new members applying for membership regularly.  As a fraternity, we have harmony among members.  We strongly support charity activities and support many organizations and individuals.  The only regret that most of us have is that we didn’t join Endeavor Lodge sooner!”

The Delaware Hospice Center in Milford will open in April 2008 and will provide the community with a new level of specialized hospice care for those who require short-term stays for symptom management.   The Center will also feature a Community Resource Center for education and training purposes as well as a Family Support Center.

The Lodge’s Past Master, Bill Hadder, said, “We believe that Delaware Hospice is a wonderful organization which helps so many families and it’s a pleasure for us to be able to make this donation to the capital campaign.”
