PRESS RELEASE: March 13, 2008 For Immediate Release
Delaware Hospice holds Dedication Ceremony for the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford
Delaware Hospice celebrates the completion of the new Delaware Hospice Center on Friday, March 14, 2008. When it opens in April, the new Hospice Center will provide a new option of specialized care in a home-like environment and will welcome the community to its Family Support Center and Community Resource Center.
The comprehensive Delaware Hospice Center will meet the needs of those who require short-term stays for symptom management.
Patients and their families will find specialized hospice care 24 hours a day, seven days a week in a home-like environment in one of sixteen suites. A country kitchen, family room, children’s play room, and a formal living room complement the patient/family suites and encourage sharing among guests.
Keynote speakers at the Dedication Ceremony/Ribbon Cutting will be: the Honorable Thomas Carper, United States Senator—Delaware; Dr. J. Donald Schumacher, Psy.D., President and C.E.O. of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization; The Honorable Joseph Rogers, Mayor of the City of Milford; Henry B. (Troy) Silliman III, Chairman of Delaware Hospice’s Board of Trustees; and Susan D. Lloyd, MSN, RN, President and C.E.O. of Delaware Hospice. Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Karen Taylor-Good will perform some of her inspirational music.
The Delaware Hospice Center represents the largest amount of private sector financial support that Delaware Hospice has ever received in its 25 year history.
The creation of the Center brings a visible, tangible presence to hospice care and will further promote awareness in the public of the benefits of hospice care and education about end-of-life issues.
At the Delaware Hospice Center, families will be able to spend meaningful time together--to share a meal, to visit, or perhaps to watch birds take food from a feeder while strolling through beautifully landscaped walkways.
The Center is an option for patients of all ages--a choice when care at home is not appropriate.
For example, a patient leaving the hospital may need a brief stay at the Center to have symptoms managed before returning home. A caregiver may need to learn how to care for their loved one, or just a break from their awesome responsibility.
The Family Support Center housed in the Delaware Hospice Center will offer education, resources, counseling and support for family members in the community who are coping with life-limiting illness and the loss of a loved one.
The Delaware Hospice Center is being funded with an ongoing $4 million capital campaign, “The Community Campaign to Expand Delaware Hospice,” and has reached approximately 75% of its goal.
