Delaware Hospice representatives Troy Silliman, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Wayne Holden, Co-Chair of the Community Campaign to Expand Delaware Hospice, John Ward, Chairman of the Development Committee, and  Susan Lloyd, President and C.E.O., receive a $5,000 check from Mike Buchler, Beat the Beast Golf Tournament organizer.

Delaware Hospice received a $5,000 check from the “Beat the Beast” Golf Tournament proceeds to benefit its capital campaign supporting the new Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

Mike Buchler, President of Chesapeake Insurance Advisors and tournament organizer, presented the check at the Dedication Ceremony for the Delaware Hospice Center on Friday, March 14, 2008.

Mike said, “Beat the Beast raises funds primarily to battle cancer, but we also bring people together to celebrate the victories of survivors and to remember the loved ones.  Funds raised are used for research, building awareness or for patient care.  With Delaware Hospice’s reputation for providing excellent care and compassion and all the fine work they do in the community, it is an honor to present a portion of the tournament proceeds to this campaign.”

The Delaware Hospice Center will be a home away from home for patients in need of brief stays for symptom management.  Professional care will be available 24 hours a day, giving caregivers needed support and quality time with their loved ones.  They will find privacy, comfort, and comprehensive services in the 16 family suites, with family, kitchen and dining areas, a children’s playroom and a central gathering place.  The Center will also house a Community Resource Center, and a Family Support Center, as well as home care and administrative offices.

About Beat the Beast
On December 10, 1994, Stacey Weaver Berrier was lost to cancer.  Stacey’s brother, Kevin Weaver, created Beat the Beast in 1995 to do something in her memory to help beat the beast of cancer.  With generous support from friends and relatives, the first Beat the Beast outing took place at the Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in North East, Maryland in the spring of 1995.  Over the past 11 years, Beat the Beast has been held 10 times and has raised approximately $70,000 for the fight.   The 2008 tournament will be held on May 16th at Patriots Glen.
